The Wellness Web: Rooftop yoga, caviar supplements (yes, really), farm to table supper clubs & much more.
Hubermanās Hot Take on Skincare, Anti-Aging & SPF
Daddy Wellness, aka Andrew Huberman, just dropped a deep dive into skincare & anti-aging on his latest podcast episode. We know his ultra-scientific approach can be a little intense at times (especially if youāre trying to multitask & get through your to-do list) so we figured weād save you over 2 hours of your precious time & share the juicy bits for you below.
āļø Catching Rays
Balancing Sun Exposure & Skin Cancer: Itās hopefully not new news to say that you need some sunlight on your skin for a sweet dose of Vitamin D to help with hormone regulation. But, you can have too much of a good thing. Try to avoid high UV index exposure (you can check it daily here) & make sure youāre protected - either physically e.g. a hat, and/or by wearing an SPF.
Talking of SPF, Ditch the Chemicals: Huberman says to avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone and avobenzone ā theyāre endocrine disruptors (aka, they f*k with our hormones). Opt for mineral SPFs with zinc oxide, but keep it under 25% concentration.
Sun-Safe Picks:
āThis chemical-free mineral SPF spray uses 12% zinc oxide & added hydrating skincare heroes like aloe & argan oil. Itās officially replaced my all-time favourite Piz Buin!ā | āCruelty-free brand Alba Botanica are all about naturally infusing their products with botanical blends. This one has added safflower oil and aloe vera.ā |

Peptide Power: Copper peptides are your new BFF for supporting collagen production. Huberman didnāt recommend any specific brands though. Our favourites are the Allies of Skin Multi Peptides & Growth Factor Serum and Niodās Coper Amino Isolate Serum (currently 30% off at Harrods). Huberman also mentions BPC-157 injections for anti-aging tissue repair, but itās not something thatās widely available right now (aka, it requires you doing it yourself at home, which weād strongly suggest avoiding!). More research is needed to prove itās safe to be injected into the skin, so stick to the copper alternatives until then.
Collagen Supplementation: Huberman raves about getting consistent with taking collagen everyday. Aim for 5-15g per day via supplements or bone broth.
Donāt Forget Niacinamide: Look for products with at least 10% niacinamide to tackle inflammation, hyperpigmentation, and balance oil production. Plus, theyāre great at giving a plump hydrated look to the skin.
Retinol: Huberman's preferred retinol is pricey at over Ā£500. For a more budget-friendly option, try Medik8ās cult-favourite Retinals. Prescription retinol, like the popular tretinoin (e.g. from places like Skin&Me or Dermetica), is also effective according to Huberman.
Baby-Face Favourites:
āThis is one of those products that you almost donāt want to love because of the price. Sadly itās lived up to itās 5-star reviews so far. Iām extending the life of it by only using it in certain areas like my crows feet & frown lines!ā | āThe thing I love about this serum (& The Ordinary products in general) is that it doesnāt have loads of unnecessary ingredients in it that could clash with my other skincareā. |
š Treating Acne
Back To Basics: Huberman takes a no-nonsense approach here, focusing on keeping your gut healthy with a balanced diet, anti-inflammatory foods, and cutting back on sugar & dairy. Urgh - as resident acne-sufferers, we were ideally hoping for a miracle cream recommendation, weāre ngl.
Red Light Therapy: Use it at least five times a week for visible results. Heās keen to stress that itās not a miracle cure (double sigh), but itās been proven to help. These are the top-rated at-home devices.
THE WELLNESS WEB:
š That viral hair mask: TikTokerās are loving this Japanese favourite from Shiseido for an at-home hair refresh for smoother & shinier locks. Plus itās only Ā£15.
š¤ I only eat caviar, darling: Apparently, caviar is the best source of omega 3 (aside from breast milk), & weāre loving these caviar omegaās from BodyBio for cellular renewal & reduced inflammation.
š· Worth a visit: In just 30 minutes on the train from Kings Cross you can get to this ultra-sustainable farm & enjoy an evening of incredible food at their Roots Supper Club. For Ā£49, youāll enjoy a 4-course meal foraged from the farm & cooked on the BBQ in front of you. If the weathers on your side, youāll forget youāre in the UK at all. Thereās only a couple of dates left so be sure to book in advance.
š§āāļø And stretch: Dreamy hotel restaurant & rooftop bar JOIA are hosting rooftop yoga sessions throughout the summer every weekend. Tickets include a 1 hour class followed by a coffee & pastry to start your day.
š Another skin device? After watching this video by Master Esthetician @skinbykristin, weāve never wanted the ZIIP Halo Sculpting device more.
š Donāt watch this: If youāre a hypochondriac (same girl, same), donāt watch this - youāll be flying to Turkey before you know it. See you there?
š¾ Spot of paddle anyone? Matcha-favourites Blank Street are taking over the Rocket Paddle pop-up over at Battersea Power Station until Sunday. Book your court & get a complimentary drink from Blank Streetās summer menu.
