What’s the deal on Dial?
Despite it looking like it’s straight out of a 1980s TV ad, Dial soap is having it’s moment. And while it’s definitely not winning any beauty contests, sometimes (just sometimes) we’re okay with that. Whether it’s raiding the baby aisle for hypochlorous acid spray or opting for a guy’s razor for a close shave down there, we’ll do what it takes to get the job done.
Why is everyone obsessed?
Mainly because contains a bacteria-busting ingredient called Benzalkonium chloride. For many, less bacteria means less breakouts, and a little less funk in the places that tend to get, well... funky. And for just £19 for a bar that keeps you smelling fresh and doubles up as an anti-blemish face wash? It’s no wonder it’s been hailed as the stuff of skincare miracles.
What’s the catch?
Well, it’s not exactly the knight in shining armour TikTok makes it out to be - shocking, I know. Like most soap bars, overuse it and you could be left high and dry (literally), with skin begging for moisture and probably producing even more oil than before. Oh, and it doesn’t just knock out bad bacteria - it takes out the good stuff, too, which can throw off your skin’s natural microbiome.
★ THE DR VERDICT →
It’s a tool in the (beauty) toolbox, but use it mindfully. For your face, stick to 1-2 times a week max. For keeping you smelling sweet, try alternating it every other day with your favourite body wash. So whilst it’s not the all-in-one solution it's hyped up to be, it gets extra points for being well-priced & super long-lasting (that’s a technical term, promise). Plus, it could help balance things out when used sparingly, but balance is key, and sometimes your skin just needs a really good cleanser, a little love (also known as Red Light Therapy..), and probably a TikTok break.
🫖 Spilling the (green) tea: Kourtney K’s latest “Ozempic-inspired” supplement is getting some side eye. Experts are saying it’s about as effective as green tea for weight loss (just pricer, and less potent.. ). Arrae’s new MB-1 also recently came under fire for jumping on the “faux-zempic” marketing train.
🎧 Listen to this: Not sure whether to do the thing, take a risk or go all in on that bet on yourself? You need to hear this.
💇♀️ Sorry Biotin: Hair thinning? According to this Doc biotin isn't the magic fix we’ve all been told it is. Despite it being included in most hair growth supplements, turns out, it’s unlikely you’re actually deficient. Instead, start by getting your bloods tested to get to the root cause. If that fails, book an appointment with a Trichologist. Until then? Switch to sulphate-free hair care, massage daily with a scalp brush & lay off the Dyson.
🍰 Slice of the wellness pie: Self-help icon Tony Robbins is set to dip his (probably perfectly manicured) toes into the $5.6 trillion wellness market. Teaming up with the hotelier behind the Mondarian, he’s launching a chain of luxury longevity hotels in 2025 to rival DR favourites like Sha Wellness and Six Senses.
🤖 Time to get in line: Neko health, co-Founded by Spotify’s Daniel EK, recently landed in London with their high-tech preventative health clinic. For £299, they offer a full body scan that takes less than 30 minutes, collects 50 million data points and includes a post-scan consultation with their in-house Doctors. With a 10k-strong waitlist already, it’s worth getting on the list.
🍋 Get hydrated: Free Soul wraps up their UK run-club tour this Sunday with the launch of Hydrate, their new sugar-free citrus electrolyte blend. Alongside a masterclass in product launches (their socials are 10/10 right now), Hydrate packs in more potassium, sodium, and magnesium than most competitors on the market. A new post-workout ritual?
