Spice up your workout

According to this new report, we need to brace ourselves for the rise of super-stretch denim activewear - aka, the jegging is making a comeback.

Despite Swifties obsessing over Taylors latest denim athleisure in her latest music video, we’re struggling to get on board with the idea of a denim-inspired set for a sweaty workout. Sure, maybe something jean-like for extra comfort on a coffee date, but a full jegging set to replace our chic all-black ensemble? We politely decline.

Now whilst we patiently wait to be proven wrong, another new style set to rise into the mainstream is “gravity” activewear. You’ve probably heard of wearing a weighted vest to add some extra resistance to your training, especially if you’re a runner. But brands like Omorpho are taking it up a notch. Founded by Nike’s former Digital Innovation Lead, their micro-weighted pieces evenly distribute weight across the garment, making them sleeker and far more wearable than the bulky vests we’re used to.

Whilst they’re still a little funky looking, with an extra $3 million in funding raised last year, we’re expecting their tech to get even better, and ideally more subtle, over time. Plus, they’re hard to get outside of the States at the moment.

But here’s what’s also interesting: what’s not mentioned in the report. Despite Sweaty Betty recently dropping a leak-proof version of their bestselling Power Leggings, the buzz around period-proof activewear seems to have fizzled out post-Covid. Even searches for “period pants” have halved since 2021. Maybe more of us have found our flow when it comes to period products, thanks to the non-toxic & reusable options now available.

Either way, we’re mostly just relieved that the noise has died down about the return of the 90s capris. Some things are better left in the past.

Talking of activewear
Last week, Alo debuted their first ever performance running shoe in a somewhat expected turn of events, after Lululemon moved into the category a couple of years ago. It’s unisex, comes in two colours & retails for £180.

Not just for the gym bros

Creatine has long been the go-to supplement for gym enthusiasts chasing muscle gains, but it turns out it might also be your secret weapon for staying sharp - especially when sleep isn’t on your side.

WHAT’S NEW

Recent studies suggest that creatine can have nootropic effect (aka, it gives you a cognitive boost), especially after a sleepless night.

With creatine though, it’s all about playing the long game. Unlike your 2pm matcha, it’s not going to give a noticeable kick from day 1. For it to be effective, studies show it needs to be taken consistently over several weeks.

Think of it like your emergency back up plan. Say you’ve got an important presentation & your sleep the night before was a disaster. Sure, caffeine can help you scrape by, but the creatine stores you’ve been building up will support your brain to function, helping you perform closer to your well-rested self.

THE MYTHS

Speaking to female friends about the study (yes we’re sad, we know), they mentioned their fear of getting “bulky” or seeing the scales creep up.

The truth? Ignoring the fact that 1. It’s so hard for women to get “bulky” and 2. bin the scales anyway - any weight increase is likely due to water retention in your muscles, not actual weight gain. And that’s not a bad thing either, it helps you perform better and recover faster between sessions. Plus, unless you’re planning to start powerlifting 200kg deadlifts for breakfast, any visual changes will be minimal. If anything, you might find you actually appear more toned, if that’s what you’re going for.

RECOMMENDED DOSE

Dr. Andrew Huberman recommends a 5g dose of creatine monohydrate, taken daily with water. It’s challenging to get that amount through food alone (think red meat, fish, dairy), so supplementation is key. And unlike most of our favourite supplements that seem to cost the GDP of a small country, it’s surprisingly affordable

★ THE DR VERDICT →

Creatine is an underrated tool for your (wellness) toolkit, & whilst it won’t replace a solid night’s sleep (nothing ever does), it can give you that extra edge to stay focused and energised when you need it.

Feeling like you’ve outgrown your current circle or just craving deeper, more meaningful connections in London? It happens, especially in our 20s & 30s.

The Wellness House is here to help you find your people - your "match-a’s" as we like to call them.

Join us for a morning retreat on the 28th September where we’ll sculpt, flow, and glow together. We’ll begin with a 45-minute grounding breathwork session, followed by a 60-minute spicy Pilates class to get the energy flowing. Afterwards, indulge at our glow stations, where you can relax, rejuvenate, and connect with women who share your passion for self-growth, self-care, and living life with intention.

And here’s the best part: before the event, you’ll receive a quick questionnaire designed to help us match you with others who share your interests & goals. We’re all about creating connections that feel natural & effortless, so you’ll leave with not just a refreshed body & mind, but new friendships that truly align with you.

  • đŸŒč How very avant-garde of you: Balmain just launched 8 unisex fragrances featuring four scent families (musk, amber, floral & woody) in their first drop for Balmain Beauty. Our guesses (if the Balmain copywriter has anything to do with it) is that the collection will pack a serious punch. PSA, UK girlies, our only way to get a sniff is visiting their London store.

  • 🍏 Throwback: Origins’ apple-inspired skincare line, Youthtopia, took us right back to this iconic apple DKNY fragrance from our teens.
