Hot Girl Hype: Eating Your Pearls

Crushed pearls are having a moment right now. Miss Espresso herself, of all hot girls, just introā€™d us to this over-the-top supplement, adding the magical dust into her Erewhon smoothie. Non-pearl infused smoothies? So 2023. Although adding pearls into skincare & makeup is nothing new, people are actually eating the stuff, citing a range of beauty and longevity benefits (plus healthy dose of main character energy).

@latecheckout

What is it?

Itā€™s exactly what it sounds like: finely crushed pearls. Traditionally used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, itā€™s making its way into our beauty cabinets and breakfast routines. Pearls are loaded with amino acids, antioxidants, calcium, and trace minerals - aka, all the good stuff that gives a lovely glow, stronger bones, ultra-shiny hair and a calm mind. Yes please & thank you.

How to use it?

You can take pearl powder orally - add it in with your go-to smoothie mix or even your morning matcha (okay, pearl matcha has to be the most boujee morning drink there ever was, aside from a $23 smoothie).

Isnā€™t it, well, a bit extra?

Weā€™re all for ancient beauty rituals that stand the test of time, and pearl powder is definitely that. The rich, famous & way too hot for their own good also swear also by it (and who are we to argue with their results). While the science is limited, thereā€™s a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest itā€™s worth a try. That being said, pearl farming does have some ethical concerns, especially if the farming doesnā€™t prioritise sustainable harvesting methods. Our favourite? The Agent Nature Holi Mane powder (the one actually in the Erewhon smoothie, if youā€™re interested). Itā€™s not cheap, but itā€™s a blend of both marine collagen and pearl powder. & well, pearls are precious after all.

PS. Since Daily Rituals are a Healf affiliate, you can get 10% off the Holi Mane Powder when you use this link too.

Weā€™ve all got that one beautician, hotspot or product weā€™re gatekeeping. & lets be honest, the Daily Rituals girlies just get it. So, this week, we caught up with Helen. As a busy agency-owner, podcast host & certified Life Coach, itā€™s safe to say she knows a thing or two about wellness rituals that keep her feeling herself.

āš¬ Your daily non-negotiable?

Hypnosis and quantum leap meditations by Anthony Serino. I play them whilst using my CurrentBody LED Therapy Mask & lying on my Bed of Nails Acupressure Mat with my legs up the wall.

āš¬ #1 treatment atm?

Polynucleotides. Theyā€™ve brightened my under eye dramatically & I like that theyā€™re a more holistic approach vs filler.

āš¬ Fave spa to visit?

In the UK, it has to be the Guerlain Spa at Raffles London. Iā€™m also obsessed with the Lefay Resort in the Dolomites. Their Tibetan Sound Bath Massage is something I think about honestly every day.

āš¬ A book that everyone needs to read?

Limitless by Jim Kwik - itā€™s all about how to ā€œunlock your best brainā€, learn new things quicker & boost your mental productivity.

āš¬ Something you wish youā€™d learned sooner?

How much alcohol messes with my hormones, skin, brain & gut health.

āš¬ Whats ALWAYS in your bag?

The Grapefruit Laneige Lip Balm - it keeps my lips hydrated & glossy, and I love wearing it over my lipstick.

āš¬ What should be a wellness trend, but isnā€™t?

Establishing your core values. Once youā€™ve worked out what these are, itā€™s easier to decide where to distribute your time & energy, what to say no to & whatā€™s aligned with you. Living in alignment with your values is so underrated - it helps you curate a more authentic and fulfilling life.

  • āš” Searching for purpose? Download this worksheet, convert it into a word doc & spend 10 minutes a day working through it. Pro tip: upload it into ChatGPT after and ask it to give you a wrap up of your answers.

  • šŸ’ø Very healthy hair tips: Across the pond in the US, a 20% tip for your hair dresser plus $10-$20 per assistant is the norm, according to this US blog. We love the generous energy but us Britā€™s could never..

  • šŸ‘“ A new reality? A new study found that virtual reality (VR) fitness headsets that adapt the intensity of your workout based on your mood might help you stick to your workout regime. Our hot take? Weā€™d personally prefer it if it adapted based on where we are in our cycle. Luteal phase workouts just got a lot more bearable.

  • šŸ‘‹ Talking of the luteal phase: We salut this mystery womanā€™s boundaries.

  • šŸ˜¬ Got a whiff of it: Your sense of smell is most sensitive in the evening, thanks to your circadian rhythm. This could explain why that TikTok viral dinner and your fave person smell extra good after dark.

  • šŸ’ New LA wellness hotspot: Love.Life, the latest venture from the WholeFoodsā€™ Founder (who else?!) is LAā€™s newest ā€œhigh performance & longevityā€ hub. With a shopping list of biohacking treatments on offer plus daily breathwork, an ultra-high tech gym & ashwagandha smoothies on tap, itā€™s a wellness girlies dream. The vibe? A little crunchy looking for $50k a year. Maybe weā€™ve just been spoiled in London with the dreamy aesthetics from wellness clubs like Surrenne and Lansof Arts Club. Luckily for us mere mortals, Love.Lifeā€™s plant-based cafe is free of charge to enter & is packed with nourishing, seed oil-free delights. Thank goodness.
