🍑 Butt skincare is a thing

Plus the wellness festival to visit in London this weekend, a fool-proof bronzy glow, honest collagen talk & much more.

In this week’s instalment of ridiculous-products-that-have-no-business-existing, I present to you ‘hole serum’. Yes, you unfortunately read that right. Worse still, this launch by the aptly named brand Asset is no doubt the start of a whole new category of butt skincare. & I can’t help but think, where do we draw the line?

Apparently, the serum is designed to “boost elasticity and brighten uneven skin tone”. First question - who’s looking down there (and also how do you even do that?) and thinking, “this would look soooo much better if only it was a little lighter and smoother?” & secondly, who cares anyway

I’m all for taking pride in my appearance (although you wouldn’t think so if you saw the state of me writing this), but should anyone be so lucky to see that region (myself included), I doubt they’ll be thinking, “gosh, if only she’d heard of Asset’s hole serum”. I’ll link it here, purely to prove that it actually exists, but this really isn’t intended to be a plug (no pun intended).

Interestingly, the search traffic for ‘butt skincare’ is non-existent right now according to Google. And since I can’t see this being a product recommendation you casually drop into the group chat, who knows if we’ll start to be marketed 5-step routines for our butt. Either way, you can count me & my peach out.

In your weekly dose:

  • ✏ The summer fake tan olympics has started: since the UK weather is unable to make up its mind whether it’s joining us for summer, we’re taking matters into our own hands (or mitts, ideally).

GOING FOR GOLD
The summer fake tan Olympics is here

It’s official. The very moment the UK weather gives us a tiny glimpse of summer, the race to get our best golden glow is on.

Fighting the temptation to hit the sun beds or lay out in it isn’t easy though. If you find yourself considering it, Google the price of anti-aging resurfacing laser treatments. In aid of the future, wrinklier me, I find it works a treat.

With the UK weather unable to make up it’s mind whether it’s joining us for summer anyway, it’s down to us, and our trusty fake tans, to do God’s work. Whether you’ve got sensitive skin, you’re acne-prone (same girl) or you’re the fairest of them all, these are the tried & tested fake tans you’ll love this summer.

The one to look like you’ve been in the Maldives for two weeks:
- Bali Body 1 Hour Express

The guide shade from this iconic Aussie brand makes you immediately regret thinking it was ever a good idea. But, if there ever was a time to trust the process, it’s with this.

Once washed, it leaves a gorgeous (& surprisingly natural-looking) olive bronze. It’s marketed as ultra-dark, but I personally think it’s only ultra-dark before you wash it off. So unless you’re verging on being blue right now, it’ll be perfect for you.

I found it applies best with a mitt (FYI, hand application was a major no-go as it dries too quick). Plus it’s 100% cruelty free & uses a natural DHA (the stuff that makes you go nice & dark), whats not to love.

The one for the girlies who react to EVERYTHING
- Eco by Sonya Cacao Mousse

Another Aussie brand (the Aussie girls just get it don’t they), but this time paired back with all-natural & organic ingredients. Eco by Sonya’s cacao-based formula has been a staple for sensitive-skin’s across the globe for over 10 years. Super lightweight, it’s pretty much free from everything that could irritate your skin (synthetic fragrances, synthetic ingredients, food colouring, parabens, you get the picture).

The one that won’t set off your bacne
- St Tropez Tan Tonic Drops

If you’ve been here a minute, you’ll know I struggle with my skin - I always have. These 5-in-1 St Tropez tanning drops are the best I’ve tried that haven’t broke me out. With natural tanning actives and some extra breakout-friendly ingredients (hyaluronic acid and niacinamide), I get why these have so many 5* reviews online.

My favourite thing about them is having the choice of what to mix them with. Since my skin hates anything too thick or greasy, I always go for the prebiotic-packed Galliéne Body Milk.

PSA: this combo isn’t going to be your saviour when you’re somewhat transparent & it’s glow up Thursday. It definitely needs 2-3 applications to get the best colour pay off.

The one that actually leaves you glowing
- Dr Dennis Gross Glow Pads

I was so skeptical about these. Exfoliating and tanning in one? Surely not.

The Dr Dennis Gross face tanning wipes are formulated with glow-giving alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHA’s & BHA’s). So not only do they help unclog your pores, they also leave the dreamiest natural-looking bronzed hue the next morning.

Although the individually wrapped pads are somewhat excessive on the packaging front, they do come in super handy when you’re travelling. Just add your favourite tinted SPF, a bit of bronzer & you’re good to go.

Our natural collagen doesn’t stick forever, and as we go through our 20’s, the first tell-tale signs of ageing we all know and (don’t) love start to make an appearance. This is where the world of collagen supplements steps in. But which collagen type is your ticket to a healthier, more glowy you?

THE DR HOT LIST

“I find a lot of dry shampoos make me itch, but unlike the others, this miracle powder doesn’t leave any build up once you’ve worked it in to your scalp. Smells fresh & clean and keeps me oil-free for around 3 days.”

“My favourite thing about the Ultrahuman ring is that once you’ve bought it, there’s no subscription fee (like Oura) to see your health data. Plus, the Ultrahuman ring allows you to actually track more than the Oura. Granted, neither are going to be 100% accurate, but they can definitely show trends in your overall health.”

“VB wasn’t playing when she released this ultra-precision contour stick. I went for shade Marble. Thanks to it’s cool tone, I find it works best to create a snatched effect finish over a warmer, more golden bronzer like the Benefit Hoola or Nars Laguna.

“I’ve been seeing this colourway of the Adidas Spezial’s all over my Instagram this week and I’m obsessed. I rarely wear bright colours, but these are the perfect pair to add some interest to a neutral athleisure outfit.”

With love,

Jasmine
