☆ A new wellness sanctuary in London, your sign to go slower, why more people feel ugly

Plus a gut-health start up changing the toilet game (yes, honestly), Rhode tea and a front seat on the action, an €11k retreat we're dreaming about and much more.

Hey lovely,

Jasmine here, Editor of Daily Rituals, back with your Wellness Dose.

Thank you so much to those of you who have been referring your friends (and even family!!) to the Wellness Dose since the referral program got a face lift. This week, I've sent out more referral goodies than ever. Georgie, Sarah, Rosie and Georgia all hit BIG milestones this week and each bagged one of our organic Wellness Club totes too - congrats! For those of you who'd like to get one too, your link is at the bottom of this email.

PS, if your Monday is already feeling a lil chaotic - this is your reminder to find a moment to go slow(er) today.

As always, thank you for being here. I'm so grateful for you.

The best stories & updates that caught our eye this week →

  • 😴 AG1's sleepy sister: Last month their new AG1 Next Gen formulation dropped, and now, after 15 years, Athletic Greens are adding a second product to their lineup this summer - AGZ. Details are under wraps, but what we know? Expect a chocolate mint powdered drink with everything the brand thinks we need for those elusive 8 hours. Will we try it? Definitely. The real question is will we rebuy?

  • 💩 Sorry what: Something we didn't have on our 2025 bingo card? An AI-powered toilet that scans your waste and analyses it for gut health markers, inflammation, IBS, and hydration levels. Gut health startup Throne (iconic name) just secured $4M to bring this very intimate device to market. Paired with meal logging, it translates your poop data into "personalised health insights." The future is here, and wow, it’s up close and personal.

  • 🏥 The self-diagnosis generation: Half of young adults believe "doing your own research" (cough, ChatGPT & Reddit) beats visiting the docs, with 75%+ feeling confident managing their health independently. For US girlies, that just got easier with new brand General Medicine where you can shop for blood tests to doctor's notes with simple upfront pricing. It’s Amazon for healthcare, basically.

  • 🌞 It’s giving orange: Trump's latest "big, beautiful bill" includes tax breaks for indoor tanning salons all while cutting funding for much-needed rural hospitals. At least everyone can look bronzed for less while waiting for healthcare, right? Make it make sense.

  • 🏖️ Retreat yourself: Social wellness club Remedy Place just announced their first retreat in this incredible location - 6 days of "Aegean Awakening" including everything from breathwork to NAD+ IVs. Shared rooms start at €11k per person.. For those not planning to liquidate assets for wellness, this new boutique Ayurvedic spa just opened in Mayfair's Montcalm hotel. It’s everything you’d expect from the 5-star hotel chain and spa days start at £192 including a 60-minute treatment.

  • 🧘‍♀️ The new place to be: Soho House membership not cutting it? This new wellness community could be your answer. Less about being seen, more about just being. Set in an aesthetic warehouse off Brick Lane, there's co-working space, plant-based cafe, non-alcoholic bar, sauna, ice baths and a full timetable of classes (hosted by East London fave Waking Dreams). And right now, you can trial it out for 7 days for £29. Heavenly.

  • 🏨 Airbnb goes wellness girly: Finally solving the eternal holiday dilemma of choosing between a cute flat and proper spa access, the app now offers spa treatments, makeup appointments, and massages in 260+ cities through Airbnb Services.

  • 💰 You go girl: Just after announcing their Sephora UK launch, Rhode's $1bn acquisition by E.L.F got everyone talking last week. Hailey's earning $800mil (with a potential extra $200m over the next few years). But is Rhode worth $1bn? Debatable (even E.L.F hasn’t released projections) - either way, expect them to expand way beyond their current 10 cult products, and quick. Fancy front row seats to empire building? This job could be interesting.

Why your standards are getting more expensive

FROM LIPSTICKS TO LASERS

Ever heard of the Lipstick Index? As our faves Girls That Invest explain - it's the theory that we turn to smaller luxuries, like lipstick (or perfume, according to the Financial Times), during economic downturns. But Forbes reckons the "Wellness Index" is taking over, as quick surface-level beauty fixes aren't cutting it anymore when times get tough. Now, we're apparently more interested in longer-term, science-backed, longevity-driven products.

Our hot take?

We're siding with writer Jessica DeFino's "Aesthetic Index." Unlike traditional indicators tracking what people buy, it measures how beauty standards themselves become more expensive and unattainable during economic stress. Whilst a few years ago “high maintenance to look low maintenance” might have been using an AHA a few times a week & a brow tint, now the norm is botox, microneedling, lasers and regular lymphatic drainage. While most people spend less (and more strategically) on beauty during a downturn, the bar for what's "beautiful" keeps rising (sigh).

The result?

Beauty is splitting into two markets - ultra-premium services for the wealthy who can maintain impossible standards, and affordable DIY alternatives for everyone else scrambling to keep up. It’s particularly brutal for Gen Z who are simultaneously obsessed with beauty and deeply unhappy according to this report, with 62% saying they "care a lot" about appearance. Put simply, in a downturn, appearance becomes an even stronger class marker (double sigh).

The opportunity?

If you're launching a beauty brand right now, create something that delivers professional results instead of another £60 serum. Think at-home devices that actually work (like the LED mask takeover of recent years), fool-proof techniques making expensive treatments more accessible, or rental models letting people access premium equipment & wellness tech without the upfront cost (hello, reformer-as-a-service, somebody please).

On the flip side, it’s not new news to say there's equally big money in ultra-exclusive longevity treatments for those willing to pay. The key? Finding your niche, a great location, likely securing investment, and having bulletproof results to justify premium pricing. Think next-level regenerative treatments or cutting-edge tech that makes clients feel they're getting inside access to the "the future of beauty."

Either way, the middle ground is being squeezed. Pick a lane, commit fully, and build your entire brand world around serving that market's exact needs.

PS. if you’re building a brand in this space atm, reply to this email and let me know!

Editors’ top wellness picks from the New In (or new-to-us) section this week →

Ever felt your magnesium body spray was making you a lil itchy post workout? Cool girl wellness brand Eyeam’s has come to the rescue. Their new 2-in-1 (oil + water) bi-phase spray gives you a healthy dose of magnesium plus plenty of glow-boosting goodness with every spray.”

Did somebody say a non-alcoholic negroni with added nootropics and just 10 cals? Sign us up. Admittedly, we’re a little early on this one as they’ve not yet launched in the US & UK, but we’re patiently waiting for their June drop.”

Whether you plan to hit the court (or not, in my case), this is a great addition to take the edge off any warm up. It’s half way between a t-shirt and a jumper, but make sure to size up for a more casual look as it fits pretty snug”

White casts, be gone with Beame's SPF mist. Created to be a moment of calm, with a mood-boosting scent & ingredients to combat skin stress, the result is a non-greasy finish leaving skin hydrated & resilient. Top up on the go, or when your UV sticker changes colour. Genius.”

Never has it been easier to get your vitamins in thanks to The What Supp Co. Their newest addition has everything you could need for glowy skin and healthy hair. PSA though, acne-prone girlies, biotin is unlikely to be your friend so try their detox patches (my favourites) instead - great for holidays and heavy nights.”

“There’s nothing as bougie than a £4k temperature controlled mattress cover, except from perhaps if you added a blanket with the same tech, health tracking and even meditations with Dr. Huberman like the latest Pod 5 model from Eight Sleep. Some reviews say it’s life changing, and these sweaty spring nights have me seriously considering one”.
