☆ A hot girl hack for productivity, Alo is looking good right now, SPF drama

Plus a the business of gummy supplements, a new Ultrahuman drop, high grannies and much more.

Hey lovely,

Jasmine here, Editor of Daily Rituals, back with your Wellness Dose.

I’m writing this week's Wellness Dose after a dreamy long weekend in St Ives, Cornwall and I don't think my Oura ring has ever registered so much daily "restored" time. Sleeping in a little hut, watching rubbish "normal" TV after dinner in bed, beach walks, hikes and so much good food. The weather might not have been on our side but it sure beats rain in London.

Favourite reccs coming up, as requested in my DMs!

  • Food: Silco & St Eia for small plate deliciousness with equally impressive drinks menus, Blas Burgerworks for laid-back food-coma inducing burgers and Bre Cafe for a friendly nourishing breakfast spot (weekdays only).

  • Coffee: Yallah Coffee was probably our favourite, with Bre & Mount Zion close seconds.

  • Spa's: Admittedly, we didn't squeeze this in (too busy eating..), but I was eyeing up the Scarlet Hotel & Spa, or the viral £45pp Newquay spa that's much easier to book last minute.

  • Sleep: We stayed in this cosy cabin in St Ives - 15 minute scenic walk into town but it felt properly secluded. We also checked out Penzance, but personally preferred St Ives for having more cute streets and beautiful beaches to explore.

  • What to do: Walk from St Ives on the coastal path to Lelant & back (or one of the many other routes on Komoot), watch the world go by at The Balcony, and browse the independent shops between obligatory stops at various bakeries and coffee shops (likely explains the restored time).

As always, thank you for being here. I'm so grateful for you.

The best stories & updates that caught our eye this week →

  • 🏠 Your smart everything: Ultrahuman has pivoted sideways to avoid their eternal smart ring battle with Oura. Debuting their new subscription-free "Home" device designed to pair with their ring, users can now get a room score as well as a health score. The idea behind the launch? Your space impacts your recovery and “Home” can help you optimise it. Alongside this (pretty smart) strategy to embed themselves into our lives, they're also launching "Blood Vision" (blood testing with good marketing) later this year. Said to help inform users how lifestyle tweaks could improve their biomarkers, we're mostly wondering if the product team ever sleeps themselves?

  • See you on the green: Single & want free golf lessons this summer? This is your sign

  • 😴 Sleep sweet spot: In an interesting twist, this study found that sleeping over 9 hours caused worse cognitive decline than getting just 6 hours. The golden range? You know it - 7-8 hours.

  • 🍬 Gummy takeover: There's money in gummies - the global functional gummies market is set to grow from $1.5 billion to $2.4 billion by 2030. Watch out for the excess sugar though - most "viral" brands contain either cane sugar or artificial sweeteners (but that won’t be clear while they're shouting about their immunity, probiotic and everything-in-between benefits). Our faves? This brand does Almond Mom-approved gummies that still pass as a sweet treat without the nasties.

  • 💊 The Women's 3: Scientist and athlete Dr. Stacey Sims has teamed up with Momentous to launch a daily protocol for active women (aka, us). The trio includes iron (with a full B complex) for energy, calcium for bone & muscle health, and vitamin D with olive oil for extra absorption. In true Momentous style, each is in their most bioavailable, science-backed dose & form. Worth noting: Dr. Stacey Sims suggests taking iron in the morning and the rest at night as iron and calcium compete for absorption, whilst vitamin D actually helps calcium work better. Filed under useful things nobody teaches you (except us).

  • 🌿 Grans getting blazed: Cannabis use among Americans 65+ surged 46% from 2021 to 2023, driven by loosening laws and growing acceptance for chronic pain relief. Whilst high grannies sounds like fun and games, healthy people who regularly used weed showed early heart disease signs similar to tobacco smokers. Textbook pick-your-poison scenario. We're sticking to hydrogen-enriched water & acupuncture for pain relief & inflammation, fyi.

  • 💸 Kimmy K's hips in a box: Following their nipple bra virality last year, Skims just dropped "Ultimate Hips" - soft foam padded shorts for £116 to create that hourglass figure, which begs the question - does Kimmy K even have Kimmy K's hips anymore? Either way, if you fancy building those side glutes up naturally, this will help.

  • 🧠 Download the app: This new Harvard study found that experienced meditators had brains that appeared 6 years younger on scans compared to healthy non-meditators. Sure, these were olympian-level meditators on a 5-day expert retreat with leading guru Sadhguru. But still, let this be your Monday motivation to open up your app for 5 minutes today.

  • ☀️ Summer is (nearly) here: Last week was a good week for SPF launches - Merit answered oily skin prayers with their new tinted mineral SPF 50, with 15 shades and an (understandable) 2,000-person waitlist. Tower28 also dropped their whipped mineral SPF that's acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis-safe, but their universal shade got called out for false "no white cast" claims on darker skin tones. For those who want a little more oomf in their SPF, Augustinus Bader just launched their first SPF with their cult TFC8 complex, designed to reduce wrinkles, smooth & brighten. Reviews say it feels more like a non-greasy lux serum than a typical SPF and we wouldn’t expect anything less.

  • ✈️ Mile-high skincare: Collagen masks not cutting it? This influencer created beauty brand Care.e.on (yes, really) exclusively for in-flight use. We're not sure if this is genius or slightly too niche, but the mini En Route Essentials Kit and this seat organiser caught our eye.

Wellness weekend plans = sorted

THE UK’S BIGGEST WELLNESS FESTIVAL RETURNS

Wellnergy is back this weekend at Wimbledon Park (and the weather is looking VERY promising too!). If a day of movement, meditation & getting plenty of freebies from the UK’s favourite wellness brands sounds like your vibe, use this link to get 30% off.

Want someone to work out your festival agenda for you? Noted - here’s our favourites from Saturday’s line up below.

PS. If you’re planning to go, reply to this email & we’ll add you to a Daily Rituals Wellnergy group chat so you can meet up during the day 💖

#1 FRIENDSHIPS: Whilst we don't recommend doom-scrolling TikTok for an age, this one from @thedailyvictorian taught us more life lessons in 2.5 minutes than school did in a decade.

Our favourite: create a "last time I saw them" note in your phone so you actually remember what's going on in each of your friends' lives. Next time you see them, they'll feel genuinely cared about (because you do care, you’re just busy and have the memory of a goldfish) when you're asking about how that work project went or what happened with that dating situation.

#2 PRODUCTIVITY: Before you dive into your to-do list this afternoon, batch your tasks by the type of brain power they need. Got loads of random admin bits? Set a timer for 45 minutes and blast through it all in one go. Be strict with yourself - absolutely no phone time until you're done. Creative task on the agenda? Set the mood with some music like this, start with a 5-minute written brain dump, and you'll be surprised how much these tiny tweaks actually help you get into flow.
